SPE Mid-Continent Luncheon Meeting — Monday, December 3, 2012 - NOTE: This meeting is on a Monday

Summit Club, 30th Floor, Banquet Room
Speaker: Jason L. Pitcher, Halliburton
Topic: “Increasing Production with Better Well Placement in Unconventional Shale Reservoir—Challenges and Solutions”
Unconventional reservoirs are often regarded as resource plays with little demand for reservoir analysis beyond simple geosteering techniques during the development campaign. This leads to the common practice of stimulating wells with equally spaced stages and treating all the stages exactly the same, with no regard to the nature of the rock being treated. The practice of steering to brittleness or similar techniques can have a direct impact beyond simple well placement. Given a map of geomechanical properties along the wellbore, completions engineers can optimize the position of plugs or packers and stimulation engineers can fine tune the design of the treatment applied to the rock. By re-establishing the link between production and geology, these methods can decrease the exploitation costs of unconventional reservoirs.

When & Where
SPE Mid-Continent Section
The Mid-Continent Section of SPE was founded on December 28, 1917. It predated, by two years, the establishment of the American Petroleum Institute (API). Today, the Mid-Continent Section has over 700 members located in Tulsa, Oklahoma USA and surrounding area. Our diverse membership comes from a mix of medium and small businesses including major oil & gas companies, independent producers, drilling contractors, well services, equipment suppliers, gas transmission, universities, government agencies, and consultants.
The Mid-Continent Section maintains a tradition as one of the most active of more than 140 SPE sections in the world. One of its more unique activities is an annual series of 18 twice monthly luncheons with guest speakers, started in 1965, and continued through the present for over 40 years.
